I wanted to start this post because I have a few worked pieces that I am not sure of the use. Please feel free to post yours as well,I feel that we all could learn something new..

I think this one was a pratice piece,or a hafted multi tool?

Scraper,blade,both?..I think (those who came before us)left some cortex on some tools to help prevent slippin on the gore.

Is this a spokeshave? From what I have seenfolks call anythin that has a curve like that a spokeshave.

I think they just never got around to workin this piece

I think this was a Gower worked down to a nub,and used as a knife. The blade edges are beveled with a twist.
I have another but in black, same twist and everything...

I like the clear stone with the orange swipe in the middle the best.
I have a friend who said the smooth stones we sometimes find at sites may be prayer stones.

If I found a stone like that I would pick it up and give it to my daughter as a gift, maybe they did the same. These people would recognize a nice thing when they saw it and may have kept pretty things as mystical or sentimental. It looks too small to knap into anything more useful than it's beauty. A nice clear stone like that would make a nice token of love or appreciation for someone. I have a few absolutely clear crystal pieces I found on a site that seem to serve zero purpose other than beauty for beauty's sake. I will post them if anyone wants to see.

Neogeo,

Nice stuff, pic 1 looks just like one I have, a dart point I think, but yours may have an old impact fracture that destroyed it in antquity.

The one with the cortex remaining looks like it may have started as a Kerrville Knife , but because of the knot in the flint, they blew it off and only took a couple interior blades from it before discarding.

just my guesses.
Hope you get some real answers.

On your "Scraper, blade, both?" notice that the cloudy patinization of the removal on the lower right (age related) contrasts with the recent flake removals elsewhere.

The white one was a combination tool -- knife, scraper, perforator.
has an incurvate scraper with a knife edge opposite it.

The one you're calling a knife has a knife edge opposite the incurvate scraper edge -- another multi-purpose tool.

Neo, great thread. I love the bifurcate the best but the scraper with the cortex is really awesome. I hope you don't mind if I post one that has stumped me. I found it in the creek on our family property last week and I have no idea of what it is or how it was used. It is different on both sides but the edge, when I hold it in my hand, has an arc like an old pastry or pizza cutter.

It is 5 1/2" x 3". Any thoughts? :help:

I was hopeing others would post thiers too.
The quartz one also has two small lines next to eachother on one end.But its super hard to get them to show up in a pic.

Here is the best I could do.
2nd I don't have much hard stone items,so I don't have any pecked items to reffer to...Is there any on this?

I shined a light through it to try to show the two lines...Can anyone see them?
Could it have been used as a abraiding stone?
