Whats the origin of this Coin?

On the one side it has 1/4 ?.A. 1836 (or 1856) .
On the othe cant make much out. Can see ?can??. Did find a couple of tokens from Canada at this spot so it may be from there.
Just a little smaller than a large cent.

I think you have an 1836 Mexico State and Federal 1/4 real.
