Old outhouses are good places to find old :censored: lol! GAP hit the nail on the head, follow the path from the house to outhouse and right outside the door.

Bottle diggers look for outhouses to dig. Personally I haven't found much there
except old corncobs.

My house was built in the 1900 hundreds. I know its a few years older but the paperwork says 1900. I dont have a large backyard and i know my property belonged to a larger one but has since been broken down into smaller lots. While renovating ive found some interesting items in the house. Old gold plated collar holder old marbles under the attic floor, picture of Jesus in the plastered walls, horse shoe, old bottles from italy and poland, old letter from 1927 inside a column that leads to the second floor with what looks like little girl socks as well as old 1930's .45 bullets that fell between the walls into the basememt when i was doing demo. Anyway, my point is ive found lots of items inside the house and found a few others outside in the backyard. Would anyone have a clue where would be a old cache on the property?

Never know what people could drop in an old outhouse. Im sure what they did drop they were'nt in a huge hurry to go sticking there hand down there and fishing around for it.

I dug 6 of them on my old property in MI. Still had 6-7 to go before I moved. Didn't have an MD then (wish I had). Found over 400 old 1800's intact bottles, 2 guns, ceramic doll heads and many odd and ends.

They are literally one of the best places to find SH**,,, pun fully intended.

I have dug everything from chamber pots to coins to tons of medicine bottles,,old blob top bottles etc. from outhouses.
And unless someone just "used" it,,, the "moondirt" is safe as regular dirt,,, within reason of course.

Look for depressions in your yard,,, if old enough,,, usually every coupla years a new one was dug.
My place was built in 1850 and I have found only 2 so far,,, there has to be at least 4 or 5 more there.

Go for it,,,, just be warned,,, they can go pretty deep,,, up to 20 or so feet in some cases.

More comfortable to use than a indoor out house except the smell but the JC Penny and Sear catalogs made for some reading

Did people lose money or items frequently in outhouses or people would hide money there?

Those are not the reasons people are interested in the old outhouse spots. Both indoor plumbing and municpal trash disposal are relatively new. Before that, everything went into a deep hole. Today, much of that old trash has value. Plus, things did get accidentally dropped, and people didn't really want to try to fish them out. After 100+ years all the human waste has decomposed into harmless soil, so there is no more "gross factor" to digging them out.
