Re: What's the best folding relic shovel out there?

I dont think there is such a thing as a good folding shovel. I had one of the new military ones and it lasted about 3 months and it broke the minute I got into an unhunted CW camp, after finding 2 dropped bullets. I used the handle as a club and took my friends shovel away from him and dug about 20 bullets and 2 buttons befor I felt bad and gave him his shovel back. I vowed to never own another one and bit the bullet and bought one of the Lesche shovels and aint ever looked back since. Even used the shovel to fend off a sow hog that had babies that thought I was getting to close. Weighs a little bit but worth the extra effort of carrying it around...d2

Don't know what you mean by new military. :icon_scratch:

The one I had was made of heavy duty aluminum except for the shovel blade. Nice and lite and worked like a champ. Thought I had found the shovel dreams are made of. I replaced it with another just like it and it didnt last long either. Broke in the same place, where it hinges. Maybe I am just to rough on 'em but since I got he Lesche I aint broke one since...d2

Cold War Faltende Schaufel

Or whatever the 1960s German army called their folding shovel while we were calling ours an entrenching tool. This German military-surplus version is remarkably similar to ours, except that it uses a push-in, spring-loaded bolt to open and lock. The olive drab blade is 7-3/4" x 5-1/2" on a 7-3/4" long x 1-1/4" dia unpainted wooden handle. Also has a 4" long, fold-out pick, and locks straight open or at a 90° angle. Comes in a leather sheath with belt loops. Used, so you know it works.$19.50 EACH

Same here. I have two (one was a back-up, but I've never needed it).

George Lesche no longer has the Lesche name. He and his daughter produce first rate shovels under the Predator Tools brand - believe there's a lifetime warranty. I love mine.

I really like the steel handle and the sealed adjusting knob.

The Home Depot by me has a 3 inch long handle shovel the sell for about$10.

I use the military folding shovel. I found one on ebay and it cost about 15.00. It has worked well for me and is much tougher than the ones you can get at a Academy or other sporting goods stores. I know some here have a had their problems with it, but not me.
