Whats the best detector you ever used?

Well, not alot of people will probably agree with me here, but I am a man of simplicity. I like things that are easy to use and that work well. I absolutely love my Fisher 1225X. You just turn it on, set your discrimination and Sensitivity and your off. It goes deep too. With just the stock 8 inch coil, it will go 8-9 inches on a dime. Then you can get a 10.5 inch coil and get an extra 20% depth for just 120-130 bucks! I have been dectecting with people that have the more expensive machines and found more than them and got the same depth as them as well. I find silver probably every 9 out of every 10 hunts. This machine is affordable too, only about 300 bucks. You can also get the next step up (1236X) for about 370. So, yes this is the best machine I have ever used. And, yes I have tried others as well, with success, but they were not as easy to use. I love the "turn on and go" feature. This is a great topic. Thanks for posting it. I hope it gets a lot of replies. It has potential to put out good info for people looking to get a new MD, or for new people who want to get into our amazing hobby. Thanks again for posting!

thats a Ford VS Chevy question.................the best one hasnt been invented yet , where everyone only buys 1 make an model you'll know its the best ,until then we all just use what we like .

The best one I ever used is the one I'm using at the moment I find my next diamond ring, then the next, and the next. Since I currently own 3 Minelabs, a Whites, and a Fisher, odds are good it is one of them..... ;D :icon_thumright:

The best one I ever used... well I take that as a question of opinion. I could state my opinion.... ooh, that was a close one, I almost did.

Generalization... stay away from anything that retailed for less than $100 when it was new.
Generalization #2... decide whether you're primarily a fan of metered units or audio-only ones. Then go from there.

I asked my Friends grandfather about what kind was the best he ever used and he told us the one that he had back in WW2,in north Africa, was the best ever. :hello2:

Best do it all detector for me is the Compass Gold Scanner Pro. Great depth, great target separation,
one of the best VLF nugget shooters when it came out, target ID meter, all metal + motion
discrimination, 10 turn ground balance and all this in a machine produced in 1989.

"First one you really applied yourself to"... johnnycat that is the best answer I have ever heard. That is true for me as well. Go with a major brand, and you can't go too far wrong.

What you are going to use it for is going to be the primary factor!
That 2-box is going to suck for clad at the park. The GPx 4500 might not be a lot better, even if it is a good coin shooter, $4500 for a machine to do a job that an Ace 250 excels at is crazy.
On the other hand an Ace 250 may not be the best nugget shooter. It may find nuggets, but any number of "Gold" machines will probably be a better choice and go deeper for gold, and some of them will do good at coin shooting to boot.

I have 2 a Minelab X Terra 705 and a BH Landstar. I am way better with the 705 and that may be because I did not give the BH much of a chance or enough time, 20 to 30 hours, I have over 100 on the 705 now. I think the Minelab is a superior machine though. I thought that within the 1st set of batteries.

I am going to get another machine, primary function will be for cache hunting. I am torn between the GTi 2500 and the Grand Master Hunter. I don't know yet if those two would be the best cache hunting machines for me though.

I will also get at least 1 more coil for the 705 to hit a little deeper. I have 2 DD coils at 18.75kHz which lean towards gold and nugget shooting, but have great trash separation for coin shooting. I also have the stock 7.5kHz coil for coin shooting and it is a little deeper.

Why do you ask?

Thanks for replying, just curious is all as I am new to the hobby, used a GMT a few times but it was too advanced for me and more for gold, I just want clad/rings right now and am happy so far with the ACE 250

I can use just about any detector to find the best stuff. It's the Site and perseverance that really matters.

The best I ever used was the White's Coinmaster Classic that I got at a pawnshop for ninety bucks. I got the DFX but I really haven't learned it yet. I learned the Coinmaster until it was second nature. Still got it, too.

Lemme kinda/sorta date myself here.....

Garret's ADS Deep Seeker... purchased in 1981.

I learned the machine, and the machine did well. I was in Missouri at the time, the ground was rocky, targets weren't deep, and I, by god, CLEANED UP on silver coin on a military installation.

Before that it was a Garret BFO ~ remember those? It paid for the ADS and then some.

I ain't swung a coil in years, and I live in the second oldest settlement in GA. I really should get out and start asking for access to properties....

Mebbe next week/month/year....

Shrimp are running and balling up in the rivers and sounds.... gotta go catch supper.
