Please help me choose the best detector under $550.oo ?

Hello all,

I am new to metal detecting and new to this site. Last year I purchased my first metal detector and was hooked. It was a bounty hunter ( quick silver ) , A month after I upgraded and got a Garrett Ace 350 . I like the 350 and have found some good stuff but feel I am missing targets especially silver . I am looking to upgrade once again but not sure what to buy . I have read through many of the post on this site and seemed to narrow it to a few detectors .
- I have a budget of $550.oo and want the most bang for my buck.
-I mostly coin hunt , usually parks , family homes, neighbor homes , schools ,sometimes fresh water beaches.
- i want a user friendly machine that can accurately detect deep targets. That I can identify what the target is and has a speedy recovery time for when I use it at a park.

The 5 detectors I narrowed it down to is :

1. Fisher F5
2. Minelab x-terra 505
3. White's MX5
4. Teknetics Gamma 6000
5. try to get a used Metal detector for under $550.oo

Any feedback or information or ranking of these 4 would be greatly appreciated.

Tesoro Vaquero - $450.00

I also would recommend a vequero. Great machine with good depth. Easy to use. I hunt with a buddy who finds many great items. Have used it many times and am very impressed with it. Don't worry about not having a vdi screen. If u learn that machine and get a vdi screen detector in the future you will be one step ahead by learning by sound and not what a screen says. Nothing negative to say about Tesoro brand.

Not to discourage you from wanting a new detector but your 350 is totally able to detect silver coins as they are vary conductive and even if they are deep the 350 will reach them. The deeper a coin is the less accurate the screen will be on telling you what it is. But if you want to upgrade anyway the Vacquero is the way to go. No screen, but they aren't worth the money anyway. An don't forget the Lifetime Warranty.

Now if you want to get one that you'll never want to upgrade, get the TEJON!:hello2::hello2:

X-Terra 505 if you just want to try something else. But Sandman is right the 350 will do all your wanting to do. I found it just as deep as the ATPro.

You could get some great used detectors in that price range.

I have confidence in the 350 that it will find any silver coin art reasonable depth. Yet the signal could also be a bottle cap, bullet or aluminum. Pretty hard to detect the difference. You just have to big everything. With the 350 coins seem to have a quick clean dinging sound.
I. Like to tinker so I got a Fisher F75. It has a bunch of different settings and read out that can help you decide if you want to dig. Not Always spot on but nice to have. There are also 6 ways to set up the sound to help you in figure things out.
Fisher or.Teknetics make some similar machines. They say the Euro Pro.is.a.good.value in your price range. You might check that one out.

I started using the ACE 350 4 years ago and upgraded to the AT Pro 2.5 years ago. Very easy learning curve between the two units. I only use the Pro Mode now, makes ID'ing silver coins as easy as bottle caps! One of the best machines I've use so far.

Best of luck to you Captain, :icon_salut:
