What's going on here? Your opinion please.

Called Capital One yesterday to see if they could order me a box of halves. They said yes, it will be in next Thursday. I get a call around opening time today, and the vault teller said that she spoke to the central vault and they said that I would have to pay a $300 fee so that the central vault could order it from the Federal Reserve. What do I think? I think that that is BS. Your opinions please.

Is $300 actually right or a typo? :o

If not a typo that goes way beyond being bogus.

Sadly, it's not a typo.

Re: What's going on here? Your opinion please.

So, you have to pay $800 for a $500 box of halves?
You would have to find more than (30) 90%ers to break even!! I believe I would speak with the manager.

Re: What's going on here? Your opinion please.

WOW! I'd arrange to meet with the manager to discuss that, do it in person. Either something is wrong or they don't want any business from you, I'd ask them to tell me to my face which it is.

I'm probably in the minority on the subject but understand and can accept additional fees. Banks are a business and shouldn't be expected to do a service for free. But, like anything else, I think there is a limit and $300 is way, way past it.

Wow............"What's in THEIR wallet?" ;D

Re: What's going on here? Your opinion please.

Is it possible that this is one of those branches in a store that maybe does not get coin service they only get paper at that branch? If they do not get coins delivered then I could see a $300 fee for the setup of the account but not a per delivery fee.

is it a fee,or a deposit?

Re: What's going on here? Your opinion please.

I have seen fees for boxes of halves range from 4 to 6 dollars per box depending on bank. Most here will order for free though.

I would find another bank if I were you.

Re: What's going on here? Your opinion please.

You just missed a golden opportunity that I'd've jumped all over. You should've offer to supply their halves, at a looooow looooow rate of $650/box. That way you can save them some loot and make a little for yourself!!

Kindest regards,
Kantuck

Re: What's going on here? Your opinion please.

I just picked up 2 boxes of halfs today and 2 boxes of dimes. There was no charge and they said they could get them any time I wanted them. They also apologized for being a day late. I would speak to a manager and see what kind of BS he has to say. The bank I dealt with was the same one you mentioned.

Change banks.

I thought a $10 fee was awful, but $300 is just plain laughable... Must be a joke or they really HATE Crhers for some reason...

I think 65gt350 may be right. Perhaps the bank doesn't have an account or supplier set up to order boxes of coin. That's the only way I can see a $300 fee actually being legit in any way.

Try ordering boxes at another bank, most people don't have to pay anything at all.

Speak to a manager.Had an old hagabag trying to charge fees for buying coins.I never did take them and pay the fee. Always told her it was crazy and left. Finally got someone up the foodchain to set hagabat straight.
