I was out detecting the other day, digging up a target and I had a strange feeling my ring was missing. I quickly checked my fingers and they were both still there. Just a bad scare. But, it got me thinking, how many of you have lost something while hunting for what someone else has lost? And of course what was it?

One time I hiked in to detect an old cabin. I remember only finding a LC with a hole in it. When I returned to the car I discovered my antique pocket watch was missing. I had just bought it at auction a couple of weeks ago and never did find it. In this case I left a lot more than what I found.
I imagine in the future someone would post a thread about finding an old antique watch in great condition at an old cabin site.

I have two sons who were with me a few years ago when we went to a municipal beach. The city had scraped the beach into large sand mounds. I was in January and Very, Very, cold. My oldest wanted to go back to the car so I gave him the keys. He was in the car for about 30 minutes and returned. Later I asked him for the keys and he didn't have them. We went to the car and they weren't there either. We metal detedted the mounds and found them 4" down. What a day!

When I detect, I always have a pocketful of different coins, and I wear a gold and a silver ring on my right hand. I use these items to test my machine, so I can set my thresholds. I once buried my gold ring just a bit so I could test my machine, and I lost the ring in the hole for a couple minutes! I knew I would find it, but it was funny how easily it tried to get lost.

I'v lost a Pair of Binoculars, at one sight.
? ?
? ? Left My Scoop at another. Luckly this one, a person still there knew it was mine & kept it for me.

Left My Detector at another, after running over it, Drove 3 Mile at Legal speed before I realized it.
? AND 3 Mile twice the speed Limit to get back when I did realize it.

? ? ?And lost a Recharble Battery, A pack of Smokes & a Lighter, at another spot.

? ? ? ? ? ? ? I hope one day they make "MEMORY PILLS"? ;D

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?OF COURSE, I'd probably Forget to take them :D? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?Jeff

I lost the only coin I found after a hard morning of detecting in the cold. I probably could have found it but it was too darn cold for me that morning. I haven't lost it yet but I am always leaving my trowel on the ground by the last hole I dug. Too many times to mention I have had to go back and retrieve it. My wife lost a solitare diamond ring in the front yard. Ever since I got my detector I have been looking for it. My front yard looks like the gophers took over and I still haven't found it, just a ton of clad I otherwise wouldn't haave now. I think she lost it somewhere else.

Jeff, I think you should tie everything you take with you to a cord and then tie the other end to you're belt LOL.

Listen to this! Last year I went to California to visit my aunt. I took my detector too to do some beech hunting. We were packing up to go to the beech. Took all the stuff from the drive way and put it into the car. We drove to Lake Tahoe from San Fransisco. That's like a 6-hour drive. We were going to stay at Tahoe for a few days before heading back. Got to the beech later that day. Took out the detector and guess what. I had Left My Pinpointer At My Aunts House In The Driveway!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still found a few handfulls of clad, a silver ring and a gold ring. When we arived home the pinpointer was no where to be seen and we asked a few nieghboors if they had it. What a waste of a hundred dollars!!! I ordered a new one the next day. I love my pinpointers! Bakergeol, now you did it. THere'll be a newbie come along with a brand new MD, find the pocketwatch laying right on top of the ground and get the idea that treasure is just laying around to pick up easy as can be.LOL
Jeff, I know the feeling. Left my pouch, knife, and headphones on roof of jeep. Drove 30 mi. at 70mph before I realized where they were. Found out just how aerodynamic they were-they were still there. Maybe they'll invent an Anit-Alzheimer's patch-then all we have to do is remember to put one on. ;) HH
