Does anybody know when this M1 Helmet liner is from?
I bought it online in a bulk with other artifacts and the helmet it was with is from ww2 so it was in the wrong helmet.
The marking on the strap says: "GROUND TROOP HELMET LINER
DLA500-B3-C-4510
"
The marking on the liner says: "HELMET GROUND TROOPS TYPE 3 LOT NO. 11"
The manufacturers mark says: "US 78" and a wide T mark underneath.

If anyone has any info I would really appreciate it.

Hi Chuzz

What you have is a Stemaco Nylon Liner manufactured in 1983 with detachable suspension. The ink stamps can smudge making them difficult to read, The DLA number should be DLA 100-83-C-4513, Stemaco and Specialized Plastics were the last two companies to produce M1 liners before the US army switched to the PASGT helmet. The US 78 is a bit of an enigma. I collect M1 helmets and have an identical liner to yours. Usually the mold mark in the inside crown, in this case US 78, identifies the manufacturer of the helmet and the moulding but research indicates that Stemaco liners shouldn’t have a mold mark which is a bit confusing. I’m presently trying to get information about this unusual feature.

Yeap post Vietnam War M1 Liner. WWII and Korean era liners the suspension was different. Here's a WWII Liner from my collection (Named, Bronze Star, Silver Star, 3 Purple Hearts, Battle Field Commission recipient, served from 37 until 62). Plus a picture with the WWII shell it came with a Schlueter made helmet (Rear seam, with magenese steel rim/edge)

Looks like your nape strap is missing, the later liners used a different nape strap, it connects to the little buckles you see inside the shell. Also your leather sweatband is missing, again the later ones are different in length compared to WWII ones.

The M1 helmet I was issued in May 1986 at my first unit was a Vietnam era M1 shell with a WWII liner. I still have this helmet and liner. The helmet has the post Vietnam Woodland pattern camo cover, with netting applied over that. That is the way it was issued to me, so I left it that way. I kinda stood out from the rest of the unit due to this. Oh well!
