I have been reading alot of reviews on the minelab xterra 50 and I think I would like to have one. I have been metal detecting for several years now. I have had several nice machines too. At the moment I have a Fisher 1265x, a Fisher 1225x and a Tesoro Conquistador. Here is what I was thinking. I would be selling the Tesoro conquistador and the Fisher 1225x. Is it worth selling these 2 machines and comming up with the rest of the money to buy the Minelab Xterra 50? I would keep the 1265x. Just wondering what you guys would do?

I think so. You'll have a good non-metered machine in the 1265, and a comparable metered one in the 50. Makes sense to me.

I noticed on your profile Shenandoah Digger that you use an xterra 30. How do you think it compares to the ace 250 as far as a metered machine goes? As far as the id type of detectors I have had they are the ace 250 and whites spectrum eagle.

Well I think the 30 is far superior to the 250, but it should be because it costs twice as much. Taking nothing away from the 250-it's a lot of machine for the money. Now if you're upgrading I wouldn't buy the 30, because a machine you can ground balance would be helpful. The 50 is a really nice machine, but if you could swing it, the Xterra 70 has a ton more features than the 50, and I believe it's a machine that would still be good 10 or more years from now. Kinda like the Spectrum-still a great machine after all these years.

Well looks like I am going to go ahead and get the 50. Looking forward to it. I hope it is worth it. This will actually be the first adjustable ground balance I have had. I know it is not fully adjustable like the 70 is, but looking forward to it. I also heard the minelab detectors have better iron discriminating than other machines out there. Thanks for the tip on the 30 Shenandoah Digger. I just cannot justify spending the extra for the 70 at the moment. I do not go nugget hunting or live close to a beach. Although looking for gold jewelry on the optional coil might be something to look into. I have a feeling the 50 will be enough for me to handle.

The 50 is a good machine, and good in iron. It's plenty adjustable, and pretty easy to learn. It'll get the job done for you.
