I was picking up a few cans along my country road and comething in the bushes catches my eye. Turns out to be an old torn up telephone cable (I think). It looks like a main line that contains about a hundred small wires inside. It's about 20 ft long and weighs a ton with all of the thick insulation. How would you experienced guys go about recycling this?

During last year's ice storm, trees fell and destroyed the line coming down that road. The telephone company put in all new lines. My guess is that this is scrap that was left over from the old line.

i would bring it to the dealer by you and see what they pay for it just like that. i know mines pays a dollar a pound for that

I have burned the plastic off wire like that quite successfully. You have to get that think insulation off of it first but the plastic will burn off real fast. I was out in the country (not in the city) when I did it though and didn't have to worry about offending anyone with the smell. It didn't produce that much smoke and I burned it in rather small quantities at a time. It didn't hurt the copper at all just turned it a funny color.
