Are you sure it's a shank?I've got quite a few tack heads from the 18th century that look just like it.

Good thought, Pete .. I thought it was a shank, but now, after looking at it a little closer, I think it may well be a tack that is clinched over.

Yeah that's most likely a furniture tack. I still think they are cool. I know some types were used on musket guns too.

I found this one in the woods all by its lonesome... it is tiny, measuring only 5/16 of an inch in diameter.
