I don’t know how interesting this is to most but those who like to dig deep may like it. Personally I try to get every scrap of information I possibly can from each find.

Found this tool segment at my early archaic site, it seems most tools are badly broken at this spot. I noticed that there was an attempt with this one to re work it into something but I can’t see what they we’re hoping to accomplish

These are the two spots they appear to have attempted to re work. Below are an attempt at showing the small removals

Does anybody know why a person would be sharpening/shaping the face of a broken point 90 degrees to the existing edges?

Also it’s an oddball material I haven’t id’d yet any comments or speculation is welcome

Good pics & good question.

It isn't a broken point. It's a tiny flake core -- a re-purposed overshot flake.

The larger 90-degree reworking was to refresh the edge while being used as a scraper.

The smaller one is conjectural, IMHO.

Getting the most out of unpromising material.

You caught me I did say point haha i meant to say tool, one theory I had was maybe the flaking is from the inside of notches since it appears on each end and only on the one broken edge but they don’t seem to be right for that. I would imagine the removals would face more toward the middle and less perpendicular to the face
