I have no idea about what this have been used for? And it does not look like u can take off the bullet on the tip, looks like it have been sealed on the cartridge, all in one piece.:icon_scratch: CIMG1837.webpCIMG1839.webpCIMG1838.webpCIMG1840.webp

Does the top screw off and say Shakespeare on bottom ?? I found one mine is a old oil bullet for fishing pole ???

Its a 30-06 cartridge blank that was used for self propelled grenade launching...and we used them when I was in the Coast Guard for a line throwing gun...try and post a pic of the bottom of the shell casing which shows the identity markings...

Your cartridge resembles one used for shooting rifle grenades, at least it resembles what a WWII American rifle grenade cartridge looked like. There was a fitting on the end of the rifle and the grenade slipped onto the fitting. The cartridge didn't have a bullet like we understand bullets, although built onto the case was a crimpted together tip with a hole in the top. Inside that hole there was a pellet that would shoot out of the cartridge and start the timer on the grenade, the rest of the gas from the cartridge would launch the grenade. The veteran that told me this said you didn't want to shoot that from your shoulder because the kick was terrible. Here's a picture of and American shooting one.

Long long ago and far far away when I was in the Navy, we used 45-70 blanks for line throwing.
