✅ SOLVED What was this buckle used for??????

This little buckle has me perplexed, I’m not sure if it was just a decoration or if it was actually meant to hold up to daily wear and tear, it’s brass and was found in a back yard that used to be New England farm field.

Joe-Dirt, that is one nice buckle - lots of details. To me the stops in the middle, there to prevent the tongue from sliding, would suggest more than decorative use.

I'm trying to figure out what it's made of, looks like cast brass? :icon_scratch:
It was definitely meant to be seen, so not utilitarian in nature.

Date wise, as Dirt Eater suggested, first quarter 20thc. :thumbsup:
