What war or battle is this

Well, the planes are F4U Corsairs, which makes it after 1940.... Those are American soldiers in the foreground..... I would think it's likely a photo from a training exercise, just because there's no smoke in the air, and no shells hitting the water by the landing craft.... It's a REALLY cool photo....

WW2 F4U Corsair fighter aircraft. Appears to be Marines on the beach wearing OD combat uniform with camo helmet cover

Corsairs were used predominantly in the South Pacific, nothing else at all as far as the eye can see, probably the Solomons.

Yes, American planes and troops. So practice landing or something similar.

The photos are all post WW2. The last picture shows a T-6 Texan trainer and is post war due to the red bar visible in the fuselage national insignia. After carefully looking at the second shot you can just make out the same style of national insignia the wing of one of the Corsairs. The first two are mostly likely stateside shots of a training exercise as evidenced by the sea oats on the dunes. The F4U Corsair was used not only in the Pacific in WW2, but also extensively in the Korean war most notably in a ground attack attack role. They also still wore OD green and camo helmet covers then too. The landing craft are actually Amtracs (LVT-3's).

Agree these are post WWII war images. The Marines/soldiers have their backs to the high ground and are facing the incoming aircraft - which are MUCH too low for an actual support strafing. In a battle they would be flying along the defense lines - not into them.

They are training, probably at Camp Pendelton, CA. I say this because there isn't a fleet out there anywhere. WWII the 3rd fleet would be clear to the horizon, and the capital ships would be, or would have been pounding the beach.

If it's a training excercise, every one is both friend and foe. They are practicing. Kind of like how a football team practices against themselves before playing a real foe. Or that's how I take it.

I sat in Pappy Boyington's Corsair. Got screamed and hollered at once they found me in the seat, it was in the late 70's. I was doing fine till I had to push on the rudder pedals. A great moment in my life. My favorite plane and a WWII hero of mine...d2
