What type of stone is this?

Here's a pic of one of the most beautiful rocks I've ever found... it was glowing yellow in the morning sunlight when I found it.
I found this in a field I was detecting about 30 miles east of Toronto and 10 miles north of Lake Ontario.

I lightly buffed the surface with Preservation Wax and it now sits on a side table in our office... my wife doesn't appreciate it though.
I love the iron scratches on it from all the plow strikes too.

I'd love to know what type of rock this is and where it may have originated though?

I'd have probably picked it up to As to what it is I speculate it's a bit of quartz that's either been shaped by water, making it a cobble, or by the location it maybe a bit of glacial till. It appears to have found a home with you and maybe it'll grow on your spouse.

We did experience a large number of glaciers here over millions of years, so who knows where this may have come from.
I just get the feeling this rock didn't originate here in Ontario.
