What type of Statue is this?

I have in personal collection a statue that appears to be Pre-Columbian, maybe Mayan or South American. Not sure exactly. Can anyone advise as to who this may represent or age? There is a hole in the back of his head/helmet. Wondering if it could be for incense? Thoughts? Any information is greatly appreciated.
