What type of crystals

Hello found these pieces of quartz in a vein that tree roots had broken up, so required little work. Found in southwestern Ontario close to Manitoba border in quartz, its vein lies in basalt/schist. Want to know what the crystals are and what type of mineralization would be present if it’s good gold ore or not. I’ll bust some up and sample it but just thought I’d share and see if anyone recognizes or can identify the crystals, thanks a lot for any help

My first thought was limonite after pyrite which is closely related to magnetite.

The "nugget-like" dispersal of the single crystals in the matrix, and especially, their diamond-shaped facets, strongly indicate they are one of the varieties of Garnet crystals.

It seems these are slightly attracted to a rare earth magnet, I took one off, so I think they’re a non metallic mineral crystal, though I agree the placement of the crystals does resemble garnets in rock. Thank you everyone this far for your responses !

My first impression was garnet too but to my knowledge garnets don’t come in metallic silver but I’m no expert, while double checking that galena was what I thought it was pyrite came up too so there may be a mixture.

I wish I paid closer attention in mineralogy. The faster I got out of the lab the more free time I had so I always was in and out as fast as possible

Wonder if it makes a geiger counter go clickety click.

Good point some of the smaller metamorphic rocks in the first pic from the same area appear to have arsenpyrite I don’t know if that’s radioactive or not but interesting rocks

Welcome to Tnet Cdnexplorer! :hello:
My wife was born in Winnipeg, but I don't hold that against her. :laughing7:

You might want to consider re-posting this thread in Rocks/Gems forum for more exposure.
