Looks like a perfume bottle to me. Breezie

Hi Breezie,
That's what another bottle collector suggested, but I'm not so sure. The capacity is very little and the there is a high probability that the sheared off top would cut someone. Thanks

It could be a perfume bottle for the purse, or either one for very expensive perfume, thus small. Does it have an odor and/or smell like perfume? Could you post some more pics, especially of the 'sheared off top.' Breezie

I'm with Breeze. The top probably had a little dabber on it but got broken. Tony

Cool. I ever thought about the dabber. That is highly probable. The only thing is the bottle would be good only for a couple of sprays. Also, this bottle would not survive very long because the glass is so thin. Here are some additional photos. Thanks
HBF.

Yep, definitely a perfume bottle. Here's a link; note many of the tops are larger/taller than the actual bottle. http://auntjudysattic.com/Czech_perfume bottles.htm

Here is a pic of a Victorian Perfume Dabber I found this year. It is only 1 5/8 inches tall, so you can imagine how tiny the perfume bottle was. Breezie

I do believe it is a perfume. It has what they call a sheared lip. It was mouth blown in a mold and then broken off at the blowpipe. I dont think they were concerned about lawsuits the way we are today. There are variations of this lip and this link describes them well. It could have been cork top. I have inks with this lip. http://www.sha.org/bottle/finishes.htm (scroll down to mouth blown bottles)

The second pic is a Chinese medicine. I dont think yours has the right shape for medicine or opium.

Could it be that it's not the bottle at all? It could be the top of a perfume bottle. :o Tony

I was thinking decanter top as well but they are always solid in the insertion area. Perfume seems likely. Nice find.

Yes any glass stoppers that I have seen were solid. Its definitely a sheared lip or something similar. Will the bottle stand on its own? Can we see the bottom? Is there a pontil mark?

I don't think the manufacture style of the lip is right for a perfume bottle. It may be an opium bottle though.

My first assumption was that this was a Chinese medicine that most collectors call opium bottles. I checked the base and the bottle does have a ring that could be a pontil mark. I've attached a photo of the base and also other medicines that I found in the same hole.

I have seen bottles very simular to this in New Orleans swamps used by voodoo preist to keep potions and powders in, They also dress the bottles up like the person it is being given to this type of bottle is filled with something (I dont know what), they call them spirit bottles (spirit bottles come in all shapes and sizes). The top is useally just a small cork. hope that helps.
