Hi All,

I've used friends' detectors over the years but need to buy one of my own and need some direction.

Specs I need:

- To take it scuba diving
- Something durable vs. cheaper or flimsy
- Should detect ferrous and non-ferrous metals
- Should be high-end vs. lower-end; As I'm buying this with my brother we can spend more than one might normally as we really need it to perform well.

Any help appreciated.

I have owned a cz21 and the Excalibur . There is no other choice for me for diving. Excalibur... If they made the ctx a little better water proofed it would be it.

What they said.......Minelab Xcalibur.

Excalibur is the way to go.

If you want discrimination, the Excalibur and CZ21 are the way to go, with the Excalibur getting the nod. If you don't need discrimination, there are lots of PI machines that work great for diving. The Sand Shark on the low end, price wise, and JW Fisher machines on the high end. Performance is not much different between most all the PI machines. If you're going to also use it in the surf and wet sand, I'd go with the Garrett Infinium LS. Seems to have the best features and bang for the buck IMO.

If you want all-metal only, a good PI like a jw fisher is top. Id you want to ID ferrous from non-ferrous, the excal is your best choice

He is from NH - my neck of the woods - salt water up here dissolves iron/steel and eats aluminum
discrimination not need as much as down south - if diving should be less trash to begin with - I
used to use
PI machine and dug it all - I try to dig it all with my CZ21s also - I hunt in all metal mode and try and get it all
you use a lot of discrim. and you will lose depth and in New England waters - that something you don't want to do
CZ 21 is built like a tank - was using on CW land hunt - tripped on hidden barbed wire -fell hard and box saved my life - scratched the box
Excal would have shattered

Since he needs if for scuba diving, I doubt tripping on barbed wire will be a worry! :laughing7: Glad you didn't get hurt. I've done that before too, just walking along crossing a field. Good thing the ground was soft and I was using my old bulletproof ,metal box White's machine.

Thank you all for the help!
