Theres documented History of an 18-19th century tomato plantation as well as revolutionary war skirmish and civil war actions within a three mile radius of where this item was found...this area is also situated amongst the oldest landing on all of the stono river outside of charleston sc...this relic resembles brass and is quite lite as the pics may show other wise... Its my families property and unfortunately theres plenty of other garbage in the woods dating up to 1960's ... Luckily ive recently unearthed 18th-19th century brick foundations amongst square nails within this area but havn't located the old oyster foundations of the master house ; really cant quite figure a time period in which this item could fall under... Please help for all suggestions are appreciated... Ive heard from speculations that this could have been furniture related? 19th-20th century? Looks somewhat of earlier lantern top from a wagon or such? and just early 20th century trash :)

You got me stumped, but that's easy.

Whenever I find items like that which were hollow brass, larger sized, and looked like they were "turned on a lathe" I have dismissed them as brass bed or lamp pieces.

I agree with nhbenz & BuckleBoy - brass bed knob.
