Well here is another thing I can't seem to find any information on. So Help!

I found this in a Revolutionary War period camp area, so it has to be from then. ;D

I would think that the "D" and "X" would be Drachma times ten or Dram times ten but it weighs 15.02 grams so these don't fit from what I can find.

The "Rampant Lion" seems to indicate Dutch origin to me but I can't find any apothecary or coin weights with these letters, this mark, this shape, or this size.

So I'm stumped.

Ideas? Found one like it?

Thanks,

Daryl

I thought it could be an apothecary or coin weight or a calibration scale weight but can't find any like it. Been there. Done that.

Thanks,

Daryl

It's ten pennyweight, which works out to 15.5 grams. I guessed this because carpenters still use "D" as an abbreviation for pennyweight. For instance, a ten pennyweight nail is "10 D".

And the "Rampant Lion" hallmark would tell us?????

Dutch?

Any idea of time period?

The dutch do use a rampant lion on devices , however another country does too , even more so.The lion rampant is the symbol of Scotland.Have a look at the flag and coins.

you guessed it, its a Scottish Ten pennyweight for bullion circa 1700s. Interesting it was normally only the 4 pennyweight counterstamped with the rampant Lion, so a little more unusual :icon_thumright:

Knew it was of that period. Found it in a Rev War area. :laughing7: About 4 feet from the Rev War beer can.
