might be a saddle belly strap buckle from the size and shape of it

with the find location being a old barn site --it makes perfect sense since a barn is where horse and horse tack (riding equiptment) would be kept at .

by the styling -- I think it looks a bit older say mid to late 1800 's (say 1850 / civil war era to 1880 maybe ) as a rough guess.

Too small to be cinch strap ring
