I found this today in the forest preserve woods (3" deep) in the burb's west of Chicago.
The metal parts appear to be corrosion-resistant (except for the needle tip) and the mid section is plastic
with some some type of glass vials on the inside (see last photo).

At first, I thought this might be an stylus for scratch board illustrations, but after I rinsed it
off, I think it's something different. . . maybe some type of animal tranquilizer dart?

I think its an electrical tester. I had one like it and it lights up.

I am almost positive it is a pocket electrical tester. Push into outlet to test and it lights up. A quick search revealed a similar pocket type tester. Some types will test for Automotive spark.
I finally got one first. I am usualy too late. :D http://store.videocctv.com/ept-6877.html

It looks like an automotive ignition tester. On older cars (pre 1975) with a standard ignition system, meaning points and condenser, it was possible to penetrate the plug wire boot at the distributor cap with the point. The tester would flash when that cylinder fired. More of a gimmick than anything. I think I've still got one in my tool box.
