Context behind an item posted in the 'What is it' Forum is always a good thing. :dontknow:

I what country was it found?
Can you tell us anything about it's past history?
What type of material is it made from
Dimensions?

Odd Gary that you should say apple picker because I was thinking apple knocker! That's the way they used to insure larger apples by knocking some off the tree.

Most of the orchards here in the Shenandoah are now raising apples for vinegar. They don't care about size, spots, yellow jackets or anything else.

It is about 6 ft tall. Made out of all natural material. Looks like a bamboo stick with a husk as a basket at the end of it. Found in Iowa. I haven't been able to find another one or anything that resembles it.

Looks like a home made oar of some sort, was there a canoe around the shed ?

No canoe around, but another cool thing we found in the shed was a French Egyptian bayonet.

It's a palm seed pod ... they split open to allow the "flower" to "bloom" and produce the fruit.
Used in a variety of art projects ... but I've never seen one hafted in this manner.

The haft is weak and inadequate for most purposes.
I'm thinking it's made as a decoration and never had a utilitarian intent.
