Wow!! That's something you don't find every day!! I was going to say cricket box. There were actually people that carried a cricket with them for good luck :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch:. Tony

I was kinda right with the insect jail idea :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:
I live in the citrus belt in the south central valley of California, so this makes perfect sense.
There are bee boxes everywhere around here..

The hole on the end had a wooden plug and on the inside was sugar candy for the workers to feed the queen. On arrival, the beekeeper would pop the plug out, poke a hole in the sugar candy and the bees would exit that way. I've done that quite a few times over the years.

My father used to order queens from Hawaii and they would come shipped in these containers with two worker bees. The workers don't have stingers so I would bring them into school for show and tell after the queen was released. Seeing that brings back some memories. My father kept bees as a hobby. We used to get calls from the county to come get swarms from people's properties and then start new hives with the swarms. I think my father still has about 50 gallons of honey in the garage. The only food that never goes bad.

Well, that's a new one on me. :laughing9: I don't fool with bee's but I did recognize the hardware cloth on the bee box. :tongue3:

So this is solved...I'll green check it.
