Found this on my last hunt. Thought it was trash until I got it home and cleaned it. There is some writing on it - "ROTULUS". It looks like a decorative something. One person said it might be a suspender clip. I found it at an old site dating back to the late 1700's. Looked online & can't find no families with that name here in NJ or even similar items. Any ideas?

From wiki: "A rotulus is a roll designed for writing on, in which a long narrow strip of papyrus or parchment, written on one side, was wound like a blind about its wooden staff."

What's the back look like 'njnydiggger'?
