I tend to agree with your blind guess of geodes but, having no idea of the size of these things or what they look like, there's a rare chance that they are
Mexican "rocas de pinata" (pinata rocks) that parents scatter about on "Dia de los Constructores" (Builder's Day). Mexican parents blindfold their
children & give them sledge hammers to search for and smash open the "rocas de pinata" & all kinds of goodies spill out for their kids to enjoy.
It's a smashing fun time for all.
 

Where are you located?


Geodes are found in certain regions here in Indiana, all over. They are not rare, I have found may some the size of basketballs. There is a house over by where I grew up whose folks living there have been collecting them for years. They are found all over the yard in decorative designs.

Concreations are found in other areas of the US.


Also many forms of flints are found in nodular formations. Harrison County Flint are one.
