I think they are off nails used on tin roofs .... used to seal the hole when nailing down tin on a roof........... and yes , we find lots of them too............
Sometimes there were old houses where there is a park now. If you found a bunch in close proximity, there may have been some structure there long ago.
I must be doing something wrong. Have never found one since about 1965 or so.

They are tin roofing nail caps. The nail head fit in the hole. When the nail was driven down onto the tin, the lead cap would form a seal around the nail to prevent leaks. I have driven several thousand of them in over the years.
That is exactly what they are. I had to find a gold wedding ring that was lost among several hundred of them near a barn and man it was brutal.
I know!!! That had to be a BRUTAL hunt they sound just like them and clear as a bell. Did you ever find the ring?
