What the heck are these little things?

Hey all,

I have dug lots of these little things in the past. Passing them off as some electronic thing. I passed them off as a modern button once too I think. I thought I saw a post of someone finding these with 3 ringer bullet's I think he said they were blasting caps of some type.
Anyone know what these really are?

They are about the size of a matchbox car wheel and made of heavy, softer metal maybe led I think.

I have found a bunch as well. I was told they were lead caps put on nails in roofs so that the nails wouldn't rust

I think ME22 has it. Lead capped roofing nails are used a lot on barns. The soft cap seals the hole the nail made in the sheet metal so it doesn't leak.

So they would make a seal around the hole and water wouldnt leak thru. They once were used in putting tin roofs on now there is a rubber washer under the head of the nail...d2

Yep, that's what those things are...except I call them "lead caps". I find my share, not only from barns, sheds, chicken coops, houses, anything that had tin roofs back in the old days.

They look like old meter seals to me, especially the one in the top left. I seem to see the remaining wire still sticking out the side.

The caps were so soft . Me and my brother would pull them off the top of the barn and chew on them. Im sure its affected my brother.

Old Lead roof nail heads , i find them too.....They smash to seal the hole....Most people use rubber seal nails now...
