I FOUND THESE FOUR BRASS TYPE BELLS MAYBE?? I FOUND THEM IN SUCCESSION ABOUT 3-4 FT APART. ABOUT 5-6 INCHES DEEP. I WAS THINKING THE PARTS TO AN OLD WIND CHIME??? I HAVE NO IDEA...

I WAS HUNTING NEAR ONE OF THE OLDEST INTERSECTIONS IN AMERICA. THE OLD COLONIAL RIVER ROAD AND XSPOT...HANOVER, VA

The term - I will be there with bells on - comes from the traders that would venture out with their goods and trade for brass bells. These could be trade bells from colonial times.

Could you post a pic of the inside? Is there a hook on the inside for a clanger to attach? Is there a hole from top outside to inside? If not, it's not a bell. Over time brass, develops a green patina. Did you clean these or is this how they looked when dug?

I think it they were used in the 'shell game,'(himblerig)where you move them around, and someone guesses which one has the ball/pea underneath.

My other thought is a removeable bolt cover similar to the porcelain ones used to cover the bolt that connects a toilet to the floor. :) Breezie

they do have a bit of a green patina. i will take some pictures and repost!!!

OUTCOME1, you could be right, they do look similar in style. Nice find!. We have near where I live the OldMine Road,in New Jersey, near the Delaware River- supposedly one of the first roads in America, which I would love to detect at, only it is off limits (National Park Service)
