What period for this Buckle

Found at Freshwater Bay. l'd like it to be Nautical.
it's made from somthing like "poor quality" Silver with an Iron tang. Outside diameter is 8mm. and lnside diameter is 6mm. Hutch.

Can you reverify the size? I know we Americans are not good with the metric system, but 8mm is about the size of a modern shirt button, isn't it? That would make your buckle very very tiny.

It looks like a shoe buckle.

That helps. Since the buckle appears to be flat, I don't think it is a shoe buckle. maybe an sling buckle for shoulder strap? 18th or early 19th C?
