Can you reverify the size? I know we Americans are not good with the metric system, but 8mm is about the size of a modern shirt button, isn't it? That would make your buckle very very tiny.

It looks like a shoe buckle.

size in inches. outside diameter is 3.2ins and inside diameter is 2.5 ins. hope that helps. Hutch.

That helps. Since the buckle appears to be flat, I don't think it is a shoe buckle. maybe an sling buckle for shoulder strap? 18th or early 19th C?
