I just got my EQ 800 about a week ago and took it down to a 1914 era sawmill village. This place has been worked for probably 30 years by myself and others, but it keeps giving up treasures. I found a 1918 wheatie and some doo dads. All I was trying to do was get used to the new machine. I ran in Park 1 as suggested and was very pleased with the way I could work through what I knew from experience was iron clutter. However, I am used to finding interesting little artifacts made from brass. I use these to nail down the date of a site, and usually find a few every trip. I only found one button which I believe rang up in the 12-14 range. What numbers are you guys getting on brass artifacts? Also, most of my sites are from the "1915" era due to the massive boom in the lumber and turpentine industries in our area at that time. Can anyone suggest a good relic hunting setup for coins and brass objects? Thanks ahead.

Park 2 or Field 2 if you want to preferentially target brass and other mid conductors like lead minie balls. You will still hit high conductors but not quite as well as in Park 1, but you will get more depth on the brass than in Park 1. Note that the "2" modes are 50 tones (vice 5 tones like Park 1) and have 0 iron bias (which I personally prefer) so adjust your tone and bias settings as desired.

Brass items should come in anywhere from the low to high teens. Round items such as buttons will sound "sweeter", like coins, versus irregular items like buckles and odd shaped doo dads which will sound slightly distorted.

If you are getting a lot of falsing or iron tones in AM (all metal) indicating thick iron, turn your sensitivity down a little to help unmask shallower non-ferrous keepers.

I have NOT been getting a lot of falsing, that's why I love this machine so far. It gives me a "flutey" sound on the cross sweep so far that has turned out to confirm that its not a desirable.

I'm going to hunt a 1958 home site on my property this weekend, and will probably dig every signal just to clear the area for a test plot. I'll report back on the numbers after that.

Thanks for the response and I will certainly try your suggestions. Thanks

Field2 is my go to mode for cellar hole, iron infested old sites. Run with horseshoe on, tone hunt for the signal 1-38 that comes through the iron grunt. No problem for me with small brass items, tiny 22 shells ring up around a 6. You have to go slow. If I want to cherry pick high tones and cover more area quickly I go to Park1.

I'm digging every non-iron signal for a while just to get a feel for it. The numbers are starting to make sense. Some are definitely repeatable, i.e. clear 20-25 is usually a memorial cent, nickels are going to be 13, and pull tabs are distinct at 14. There's also some accompanying warbles and flutey sounds that tell a little bit as well.
