What kind of tag is this? It might go on a USAF cargo pet cage or something like that.
23565 might be a Julian Date, that would make the first three numbers the 235th day of the year which would be 65 (1965).

What is the first line? Looks like VA20 ....ated

It says "VACCINATED", that's why I surmised that the numbers might represent a Julian Date. A Julian Date is a dating system that the US Government uses on some forms and filing systems. In a Julian date the first three numbers represent the day of the year, and the last two numbers represent the last numbers in the calendar year. Get it :)?

The tag looks like it had a fastener of some kind on it so that it could be attach to a cage, doghouse or some kind of carrier. I don't think it went on a collar.

The military also used dates as follows as the norm... day, month, year

Examples: 15 August, 1973 & 12 September, 1965

So the date of the vaccination tag could easily be: 23 June, 1965.

I am sure whoever the "national labs" were then has been renamed by now... I thinks where the mystery will lie. The military has national labratories now but they are all scientific based and industrial based.

Thanks everybody.

I think your right Montana Jim. This tag came from an old USA occupied area.
