Not sure what kind it is, but it appears to be the same kind that they used to sell in pet stores up here. Maybe it's parents are escapees.. ???

The girls have a baby painter turtle.....if you keep it...you need to make sure it has an aquarium with lot of room to swim and a dry place to climb on....we just have ours in an old aquarum with an air hose and flter.....it needs sunlght to make its shell hard.....the easiest thing to feed it when small is goldfish food, grated carrots and lettuce and tuna.....it has to swallow under water

Growing up in the midwest there were only two kinds of turtles. Mud turtles and Snappers. Think your's is a Mud. PBK knows best though.

PBK is right...red eared slider...very common in southern U.S. but is an invasive species elsewhere...pushes out the native turtles in competition for food and habitat......

Baby Red Eared Slider. They make great pets as long as you don't like to hug your pets. I have several of these in my son's room.

The above suggestions are allcorrect. Lots of sun, large aquarium (20 gallons), get him (her?) a friend too.

Mix their diet as well. I use meal worms, small fish, etc, plus leafy greens like cabbage and kale.

When my turtles were that small, the only thing I could get them to eat was some cabbage and this:

Pick some of that stuff up. They love it.

I named mine, Willie, Waylon, and Cash. Consider naming yours Coe. They seem to like the names of old country singers. :)

Thanks for all the tips. I believe it is too small for soup. I decided to keep it for a while. The only thing I had around the house on the list is tunafish and i believe he/she has eaten some. I will prob take it to the lake at some later date. :)

Make sure it has enough of a spot of water to submerge its underside in - it needs moisture to go potty.

(found that out the hard way :'( )

I'm trying not to imagine what would happen to a constipated turtle :o I presume the shell is not flexible :o :o :o :tongue3:

and is it a turtle or a tortoise ? I thought a tortoise has the claws, a turtle has clawless 'fins'

And you don't want to imagine what would happen if the turtle had a case of the Hershey squirts either...either way, it wouldn't be a pretty sight ;D

I was going to take him to the lake across the street but I left the bowl outside to get some sun and the little critter escaped. I hope he made it to water. I think they have a sense of direction like a homing device to make it to water. I dunno. How to bees find there way back to the hive?
