Very old statue of a lady that has been in a running stream. That is what I see but I don't know what kind of rock it is.

Petrified heart, I can clearly see the left and right ventricles and atrium, the aorta, and the pulmonary artery.

Think it is a large piece of shist. Yeah, that's the rock's name and it is metamorphic. Looks like a carved statue, but don't know.

I'm an amateur geologist (but PhD biologist by training). I'd say it looks like a sedimentary rock like a limestone or fine grained sandstone. Some of the photos show grains - but hard to tell. Another clue is the uniform nature of the stone.

Cool find!

You know, it might be helpful if we had something to reference the size of the object. It's easy to say that it may have been a statue of some sort, assuming its at least the size of a lawn gnome. But if its only a few inches in size then it would most likely be a natural rock formation of something like sandstone or calcite. Post measurements or photos with a ruler or other known size object for reference, then members will be better equipped to provide an answer.

I have seen similar weird shapes before, so am thinking it may be from a patch of sand, (or dirt) that has been struck by lightning. The intense heat fuses the particles together creating strange shapes. Hope this helps.

I agree. Could just be my imagination but i see the Pieta https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5e/Michelangelo's_Pietà_Saint_Peter's_Basilica_Vatican_City.jpg

Though that could just be one of those Jesus-In-A-Pancake type things

What he said. Looks like a heavily eroded Pieta to me too.

Then again, I don't know Jack about art when you get right down to it. Even still, that's what I see.

As to what kind of rock it is; I have no clue.
It's interesting though.

Boy, what a bunch of wild guesses. Was fun reading them, thanks. As it is plain gray and no real visible grain in it, and we don't have a chip to look at the true internal structure, the external ruff face is semi-dissolved and mineralized from what appears to be iron in the stream. My best guess is this was a low fire clay figurine that someone left as a religious icon in a water area. It looks like it once represented a seated Madonna and Child.
