I was wondering the very same thing! :dontknow: Was it dead already?

Wouldnt it have been better to cut the rim to save the tree? Unless the tree was dead already.

looks like the tree was already a goner--you can just about see the rim at the base in the photo--but the rim itself??? was it wire or wood spoked, we wonder--

no there were no spokes in the rim......and if you notice in the photo the "pine tree" if it were still alive would have needles on it.....if you all notice the tree is dead.....no needles.....it was cut down for safety reasons....

Hard to say on the rim, if you hit it with a wire brush you might find a name on it, or some kind of mark. As far as the tree, looks like it was ready to be firewood.

The rim around the tree was pretty cool but so is a nice warm fire in Feb.!
Looks like an old Model A rim. I know my grandparents used to use them around starter trees back in the day.

Did you count the tree rings?

neat relics, but I am pretty sure your cabin is a little later than 1850's

The tree was going to fall anyway. It probably looked cool when it was alive.
