The only numbers on it are 7326. I can find no other markings or manufacture name. Diameter is wrong, should be 15/32.

What ever you do, do not use a steel brush or any abrasive cleaner.

You can put a small amount of oil on it.

Take it to an expert.

Yep it sure looks like a colt. I agree with tabdog about doing anything to it. Very cool

Everything went together except I can't get the rod into the hole under the barrel.
You need to remove the wedge in the slot. Could that be the problem? Its been a few years since I dissasembled one. It holds it all together. Or maybe a piece of metal is in the slot.

Yes, 1860 Colt army. Serial number 7326 would make it 1862 production. Be careful how you treat it it is a nice early revolver!

My grandfather built this house and I inherited it after all these years. I had been moving things around so I could insulate the cement blocks, gets very chilly in the winter. That's the only find so far. But I'm not done insulating yet. Thanks for the help.

Very nice, and like others have said, do not clean it! Should be pretty valuable even in present condition.

I love the 1860 colt. The one below is a Uberti replica made in 1970. I love to shoot it, it is a blast. Very impressive at night or low light, as my avatar shows.
Once again, Great find!!

Yes, paper cartridges were issued for the revolvers. They could also be, and usually are today, loaded with loose powder and ball.

I make paper shells and use conicals in mine. Zig-zag rolling papers work great!
