What kind of mineral is it ? I found these stones on the banks of the Cheremosh River (Ukraine, Carpathian Mountains) and on the Prut River (also Ukrainian Carpathians) a few years ago. The stone is heavier than ordinary sandstone. Outwardly, all three stones look the same, but when grinding it turned out that they are different on the inside. All three stones are not scratched by glass, even a triangular file on metal does not scratch them, and upon impact, they emit a smell like quartz. All three stones were polished in the same way.
The first one in the photo is the largest of them, weighing about 3.5 kg (I do not have exact scales yet), partially shone through with a flashlight, inside it is dark brown (almost black) with white veins. glass shine.
The second one has a weight of about 2.5 kg, shines through with a flashlight a little better than the first stone, inside it is yellow-brown, the shine is glass.
The third is the smallest - about 1.5 kg, the least transparent, brown with reddish streaks, less glassy shine than the previous stones (a little matte).
