What kind of Head Phone's would you buy.

I am going to buy a set of ProStar Headphone's unless there is something else i should look at.
I am 53 and working in a shop most of my life so hearing has kinda gone a little bad.
Unless there is something new out that i do not know about i am going with these ProStar Headphone's
Was thinking a wireless would be cool but probably not good because of interference.

Thanks

The ProStars are really nice I really like mine. Can't really comment on other headsets other than the cheaper Whites & Garretts and the the ProStars bury them!

Black Widows are incredible for hearing issues...or no hearing issues, they are just a great set all around.

I worked around planes in the Navy and my hearing is also diminished. I hear best with good ear buds. They are in the ear canal and give me the best sound that I can hear. Full over-the-ear head phones are a bit heavy and hot to me.

Wow
This is getting interesting.
Ear buds is something i never thought of.
And glad to hear positive comment's about the ProStars.
This is great info.
Thanks for taking time to help me.

I am enjoying this also as I have to many pairs that do not work well.

I have a pair of gray ghost that came with my second 5900 di pro I bought
what a head phone wow they amplify the signal a lot with out a batteries and are very comfortable

I own a pair of Sunray's and really like them. Can't comment on ProStars now but, I'm looking into purchasing a pair. When it gets into summer here in NM, I use an over the ear earbuds with my wide brim hat. I found that this combination works well when the temp. gets into the 90's here. The Sunrays and ProStars (future purchase) make my head sweat in and around the ears.

Hope this helps,

TC-NM

ear buds fall out too easy..just don't buy anything cheap..You get what you pay for ..buy once buy right

I recently got me a pair of Prostars and tried them out on my MXT one day in the woods and I really like them. The thing that really appealed to me when I read about them is the lifetime guarantee. I really like the notches in the volume controls and the sound of them is really great.

I use Grey Ghost, killr Bee's and Black Widow for the excellent hearing I need. Black Widow along with the GGhost and Bee's are some of the best with quality materials. You get what you pay for and if you can't hear it, you can't dig it. blackwidowfull.jpg

I love the Killer Bees Stinger single earcup ones, cool in the summer and still can hear what is going on around me, plus get great sound in single cup, check them out.

I've been wondering about this. If the headphones amplify and help you hear weak signals, what will happen if your coil passes right over a horseshoe or beer can about 1/2" deep? Is there a circuit in the headphones that kicks in to protect your ears from an overload blast of noise?

Thanks,

Bob

Idont own an mxt but I think I read once somewhere that there's a program built in to help with that

The way i see it is good stuff is not cheep and cheep stuff is not any good.
I have learned over the years that if i do not get it right the first time it is more painful because i loose the money for what i bought that i am not happy with and them have to buy what i should of the first time anyway. Cheep has cost me money.

I cant hear worth a crap, that beng said i purchased black widows last year. Over the ear so very confortable, lifetime warranty, very heavy duty and excellent sound and adjustments.

Quality headphones, such as the Ratphones I use (out of production) Black Widows, SunRay, Grey Ghosts, and Killer Bees have a limiter circuit built in to protect your ears in just such an event.
As an aside, the Sun Ray Golds have a switch to enable or disable the limiter circuit.

As someone who has a serious hearing impairment, this thread couldn't have
been better timed.. 8-)

This, by far, is the biggest challenge I face in detecting. I was hit with Bi-lateral Meniere's Disease about
20 years back, and one of it's nastiest symptoms/affects is never ending, roaring tinnitus in one or
both ears. As a "bi-lateral", I have it in both even though the right ear has had surgery and no longer
functions at all (I tell people it's just a decoration..lol). Same disease now in left ear, and it's progressive,
but I've got a few years of hearing left before I'm perm. deaf.

If a person went to this site: Sounds of Tinnitus | American Tinnitus Association and turned on sounds 1, 2
and 3 (simultaneously), and set your volume to where it's loud enough to be an irritating background
sound, you can hear what I hear 24/7 in my ears. The tinnitus I have runs in the 4.0kHz-7.0kHz range,
so my sincere hope is to find a machine that the threshold sound is A) out of that band) and B) able
to be set at a the same low level to that a person with decent hearing would use.

The Gold Bug Pro machine I am looking at comes with a set of Gray Ghost Originals, but after
reading the thread and checking out the Black Widow headphones, I'm going to ask the vendor
to replace the GG Originals with the Black Widow headphones. No sense messing around with
something that might get the job done when the best pair is only about $35 more. Hoping that
extra expense will in-turn allow me to hear some fainter signals that I would otherwise miss.

Depends on what machine you have.

for example if you have a White's MXT, you are only working with a few tones, but if you have a Minelab Etrac it sounds like a frigging symphony.
So, headphones would be more important for the proper operation of one over the other.

I would take that into consideration when making a decision.

To the guy with bad hearing loss. Have you thought about bone conduction head phs? I use them for music there great. Don't see why it wouldn't work for detecting
