That's what my son said; but he could not get them off. And, with a little lighted scope that I can't take pics with, at times I can see the light reflecting from the raised 'fingerprints'. I new to this, so I can't be sure of what I'm seeing. I'll try to take it to Boise in a few days and find a coin shop. I seem to be able to feel the raised marks; and my son said he possibly could, but still believed they were fingerprints. It's got me puzzled!

could be a chemical reaction from a substance on finger, onto the zinc, then dried before any more damage/impact could happen... just a thought.

Yes! That's something my son suggested. As I stated, I'm new to this and it's going to take a while to learn just what is and what ain't! I think maybe a coin shop might be able to tell me more if they see it in person.
Thanks for all the replies; I appreciate all of them.

They are fingerprints, I don't know if it is acids or oils in the skin or contaminants but they can etch into the coins surface, this is one reason coin collectors always hold coins by the edges.

Again, thanks, everybody! I do appreciate the replies.
