What kind of detector should i get??

I've heard good things about Tesoro models in that price range.

Several brands of nice machines available in that price range. I'd recommend that you ask some of the local diggers in your area and see what is working for them in the various conditions you will be mostly hunting in yourself, then go from there with whatever you decide to acquire.

Tesoro Vaquero

Hello CoinHuntingNE,

The white’s families of products are very well built and perform well in the field. Another option is the Garrett AT Pro with the two modes (Standard and Pro), you will grow into this machine with time and it is waterproof so rain will not affect your hunting experience. I have the AT Pro and Gold and use them primarily for relic hunting, but they both coin-shoot very well.
Whichever brand you choose, take the time and learn the machine. Also build a test garden in your back yard, this is an important teaching tool for you to learn target identification, pin pointing and target location skills.

Happy Hunting in 2015

Regards,

After detecting 45 yrs I think you would like the MXT the best of all the detectors unless u want a real light detector like a Tesoro. the whites are real smooth with vco and detune and non motion pinpoint. rwdmo

Welcome CoinHuntingNE. You will enjoy this site.
All are sound recommendations, but I will second an ATPro. Durable, dependable, deep and waterproof. Bout $594 new.
You will need a quality pinpointer too. Pouch, diggin' tools, etc., can initially be purchased cheap. But, you will NEED a quality pinpointer. Most are well above $100. I recommend another Garrett product, the Garrett ProPointer. $127.
Great vendors here. [email protected] is my go to.
Good luck in your choices.
Peace ✌
