Spitfire, no letter G, there is a tree or branch or plant of some sort on the left and to the right of that is some type of scaffolding or oil rig thingie...not sure really what it is.

Hey, MD—

Sorry I didn't see your post sooner!

As a matter of fact, post is the operative word here. Your find is listed in Hughes & Lester's The Big Book of Buttons as "SIGNPOST." Construction is described as, "A pewter design over painted metal; fancy brass collet...steel back and wire shank." No date given, but it looks late 19th - early 20th century.

PBK...my faith in you is restored, was wondering where you were on this post...:) Thanks for that....I was close...scaffolding, oil rig and its a sign post...and I said it was brass and its pewter....:)
