Looks to me to be a 20th century British .303 Enfield rifle bullet.

To me that looks like a bullet from a 45-70 Government cartridge. So it is of a later time than your Civil war era finds. The cartridge was introduced about 1873,and in use by state militias until after 1900. Your find looks to be a 500 grain bullet. It should weigh around 500 grains and the diameter should be from .458"-.462". There was that much variation in the bores of the Springfield Trapdoor rifles.

My first thought was .45/70 also. Not knowing the bullet diameter I am guessing by comparing it to the size of the minnie balls. Monty

Yep. That bullet would be closer to the .45 cal. projectile of a .45/70 or a .45/90. ( the second number represents the weight of the powder charge in the shell ).
