I researched an old 1850's homestead in the hills above Sacramento and got a chance to get out there last Saturday. My third dig of a good signal and I came up with this baby. A buckle like this is a bucket list item for me for sure. I do not know much about buckles so I was looking to get any help I could get on identifying the style of buckle, history of that kind of buckle, is it military, etc.... Thanks for any help you can give.

On page 194 to 197 of "American Military Belt Plates" by O'Donnell and Campbell there are several like your. All are from 1845 to 1850. Now go back and get the wreath. Super find.

Thanks guys. I was pretty stoked when I found it. I have been after a buckle for a while and have been targeting Gold Rush era sites here in Northern California in the hopes of finding one. Thanks for the info. HH!
