What kind of buckle is this? Found 4 inches deep at a house built 1928.

Looks like a broken shoe or knee buckle, hard to say. You can see the small hole where the width of the buckle changes in the top/middle part where the tongue/chape would have connected. Way earlier than 1920s.

Thank you very much for the welcome. I apologize for the photo, and I realize it's broken. There are no identifying marks at all on this. I just want to try and get a ballpark idea of when it was made. The material isnt magnetic, but I have no idea what it's made of. I'm sorry I cant provide more info.

Given its shape and delicate nature, my guess is a knee buckle rather than a shoe buckle.
