What kind of a car did this hood ornament come on?

This is another garage sale find--I gave $1 for it. The guy having the sale said it was a hood ornament from an old car.
Does anyone know what kind of car it could have beenon?
Its HUGE--almost 12" in length and 1 3/4" wide. Looks like something you would see on an old "fat fender" car from the 1940's.
