I went to an estate sale and bought a box of so called rocks for $1.00 Well the box was fill with old Indian Artifacts. Many arrowheads. This one piece I have no idea what it is. It's about 3" wide By 1 3/4".
It resembles a whales fin but has a hole in it as you can see. It's definately not metal. Any ideas?
The first photo i believe to be the front.
Thanks

That's the best bargain I have seen this year, If I'm not mistaken its a Bannerstone. Check out bannerstone.com, If it is, there worth mucho !!

Congrats on that bargain..

Molly. :)

I am pretty sure those were used on Atalatal shafts to aide and increase kinetic energy imparted to the shaft of the dart as it was thrown. Best guess. Great deal

Okay, I got to be doing something wrong. I live out here in cold rain (no comma because cold and rain go together here in Oregon and should be one word) 80% of the time Oregon. The Land bridge (if you are a believer in that) is up north and west a couple thousand miles--submerged now. Quite a few hunter gathers, nomadic people and their enemies should have been running all over the place here throwing shafted lances, winging Atalatal shafts and throwing knapped rocks at food or each other. And that leads me to believe there should be all kinds of projectile points and lithic stuff laying about just waiting to be picked up. I am not seeing it here.

I got to change my strategy ;D ;D

Great find at the yard sale. I'll try that too
