I'm guessing a cannonball. Precise weight and measurement would help the experts here.
 

If its a cannon ball that Slotted circle spot might be a plug. When I was little we found one about that size that was loaded with gun powder. You REALLY should have an expert look at it.

strong possibility it's a civil war era cannon ball. could even still be capable of exploding. be careful.....
